The 11th ranked recruit in the class of 2024 for basketball has decommitted from Indiana University. Sources announced this last night.
Liam McNeeley, a 6’8” small forward, who hails from Plano, Texas, but competes for powerhouse Montverde Academy, has asked for a release from his national letter of intent that he has signed.
McNeeley had a great spring and summer last year, pouring in 16.8 points per game, while collecting 5.1 rebounds a game. This season, he is averaging 12.7 points a game for Montverde Academy.
My thoughts on this are that it’s not totally unexpected, but is a crushing blow to the Hoosiers. Early on, McNeeley was recruiting others to join him in Bloomington, but all of his recruiting efforts failed to produce any fruit. The reason that I think this is a crushing blow to Indiana, is that they now have zero committed recruits for the coming season.
Indiana tried to recruit Johnuell “Boogie” Fland, as well Derik Queen, but ultimately they chose Kentucky and Maryland respectively. Head coach Mike Woodson is going to have to hit the jackpot in the transfer portal. there are only two seniors on the team, but certain guys could go to the N.B.A. early, and others could choose to transfer.
